We are very excited to introduce our Peer Mediators for the academic year 2017-18:
Peer Mediation is a highly successful service that has been established at Wyvil for a number of years now. The purpose of peer mediation is not about telling others what to do, but helping children find appropriate ways to respond to problems with others. Peer mediators do not "make decisions" but rather work towards empowering peers on both sides to resolve minor conflicts and disputes in a peaceful, fair and calm manner.
Amongst many other things, peer mediation helps children to:
-Take responsibility for their behaviour
-Be responsive to their peers in a cooperative and constructive manner
-Improve their communication skills
-Be fair and impartial
Children who have been successful in their application to become a Peer Mediator will receive 2 days of training, in school, to become a fully fledged Peer Mediator, before being able to go on duty during playtimes to help support the children in our Wyvil Family. Peer Mediators also take part in a weekly meeting, at a time mutually convenient with their teachers, during which time they will discuss their peer mediation, celebrate what has gone well and discuss any challenges that may have arisen.
We are very pleased to welcome our new team of Peer Mediators for the academic year 2017-18 – this is a very prestigious role that has a high profile in the school. As such, we do expect Peer Mediators to model excellent behaviour at all times and we do reserve the right to withdraw a Peer Mediator from service if their behaviour is not in line with our expectations.
Should you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to ask any of the Peer Mediation team:
